Portonovi Marks Montenegro’s Independence Day with a Three-Day Celebration

On the occasion of Montenegro’s Independence Day, Portonovi proudly announces a special three-day music program at Marina Square, inviting guests, residents, and the wider community to come together and mark this important national holiday in one of the Adriatic’s most vibrant waterfront settings.

This year’s celebration carries particular significance, as 2026 marks 20 years since Montenegro regained its independence. The program is designed to reflect the different layers of Montenegrin culture, from the legendary pop-rock anthems that have defined the last three decades to the century-old traditions of Boka Bay.

The celebrations begin on May 21st with a performance by Perper. As one of the country’s most respected bands, their music has served as a cultural soundtrack for generations. Their concert is a wonderful opportunity for the community to gather and sing along to the songs that have become an essential component of the national identity.

On May 22nd, the atmosphere shifts toward a more contemporary rhythm. Acclaimed violinist Verica Culjkovic will be joined by DJ Danilo Radusinovic for a live waterfront performance. This collaboration blends classical string melodies with modern beats, creating an uplifting energy that matches the festive spirit. 

The weekend concludes on May 23rd with a performance by the Local Brass Orchestra Djenovic. With a history spanning more than a century, this ensemble is a vital part of the region’s living heritage. Their music provides a fitting finale to the holiday, rooted in the deep-seated traditions of Boka Bay and the sense of community that defines life in the village.
