Montenegro Exempts Yacht and Other Vessel Owners from Paying Excise Duty on Fuel
In 2025, Montenegro issued a decree exempting owners of yachts and other vessels from paying excise duty on fuel, solidifying its status as a premier yachting destination in the Mediterranean. With the summer season approaching, this move offers yacht owners and charter operators an excellent opportunity to plan their voyages to Montenegro, including Portonovi Marina, a key marina destination in the region.
This benefit is available on the condition that vessels for private purposes must first stay in the territorial waters of Montenegro for at least 72 hours, counting from the day following the day of entry into Montenegro. Vessels are obliged to leave the territorial waters of Montenegro after refueling but can then return.
“The reintroduction of tax-free fuel in Montenegro is a significant step for the yachting industry. It provides substantial cost savings for yacht owners and positions Montenegro as a vital refueling hub in the Adriatic,” said Novica Radojičić, Portonovi Marina Manager.
The availability of tax-free fuel across Montenegrin ports is expected to enhance Mediterranean itineraries, making Montenegro an essential stop for the global yachting community. With its state-of-the-art facilities, Portonovi Marina is a top choice for refueling.
“At Portonovi Marina, we are fully prepared to welcome yachts of up to 90 m on our fuel dock and up to 140 m on marina berths, besides delivering exceptional service to our clients, which includes dock assistance, water and power supply, waste disposal, fast optical internet, garage and car park, 24-hour security and much more” added Radojičić.
With its breathtaking coastline, luxury amenities, and world-class services, Montenegro continues to set the standard in the yachting industry. To find out more about Portonovi Marina, click here.
