Dominator Yachts' New Midi Ilumen M35 M/Y SAFESPACE Unveiled in Portonovi

Under the title ”Metamorphosis,” the latest Dominator yacht was presented to the press on June 29, 2023, in a private and exclusive ceremony held in the beautiful One&Only Resort in Portonovi Marina Montenegro.

The Dominator Midi Ilumen M35 is like a metamorphosis - a complete change and transformation of size and structure from the larger Ilumen series into an innovative day boat series that turns head at sea and in any marina.

M/Y Safespace provides the feeling of coming home while being on an adventure, of opulent indulgence while living an active, fast lifestyle, bold self-expression, and elegant understatement at the same time.

Whether in a lonely bay to ponder business strategies or together with the family, the Dominator Midi M35 is the perfect size to stand out in marinas. It is aesthetics, bold, aggressive, and sexy from far distance, and refined, elegant, and sophisticated from near.

As luxury yacht tender to mega yachts or stand-alone performance yachts with the sexy DNA of every Dominator Ilumen, the Midi Ilumen concept was featured already among Robb Report‘s 20 most spectacular luxury gifts. Now coming to life, she is a perfect combination of advanced technical features and a distinguished, extraordinary exterior with fully customized interior design. M/Y SAFESPACE has the mega-yacht features every yacht owner wishes for but in a convenient format.

The Dominator Ilumen M35 is a revolutionary yacht in every aspect and a very different boat from anything currently offered on the market of its size, thanks to the technical features and modern design methods used.

Exterior Design

Its exterior design is characterized by dynamic lines and a careful balance between round and edges with unique details such as the recess for the bow cleats, the skylight on the foredeck, and the custom-made stainless-steel engine air vents.

The Dominator Yachts exterior design team paid great attention to repurposing distinctive elements of the large Ilumen in this smaller model, such as:

- The masculine A-pillars that support the reverse windshield and the full-carbon hardtop

- The full beam hull window

- The distinctive Dominator rollbar

- The glazing bulwarks

- The moonroof for star-gazing

At the stern, there are two large sun pads, and through a central passage, you can access the comfortable and safe cockpit where the dinette and helm station are located. The cockpit is also equipped with the following amenities usually common for bigger-size yachts: a BBQ, an icemaker, two fridges, various cup holders, storage compartments, and innovative wireless chargers integrated into the teak. Adjustable teak tables can be installed for a full outdoor dining experience of 8 people.

The foredeck, which can be accessed through a comfortable 3-step stair from the cockpit, is designed to be sleek, minimalistic, and free of unnecessary elements, resembling a sports car. However, as with everything in Dominator Yachts, it can be equipped and customized with sun pads.

Interior Design

The interior shapes are carefully crafted, and high-quality materials are utilized to create a mega yacht feeling on a 35-foot day boat. Being an "Ilumen," natural light is abundant thanks to the large hull windows and the spacious skylight above, both equipped with blinds.

Below the deck, there is a wide-open space, which creates a highly luxurious and relaxing ambiance that can also serve as an office. Towards the bow, a C-shaped sofa with an electric up-and-down table can be converted into a bed. On the port side, there is a compact galley equipped with a sink, fridge, coffee machine, and storage facilities, which are all concealed in a smart way.

On the starboard side, the Midi M35 features a bathroom, separated from the cabin by a smart glass bulkhead that can convert from transparent to an opaque, translucent state for privacy.

A lot of consideration went into the selection of fine woods used to dress this yacht, with tonalities of dark and light grey oak, together with the finest nubuck. The floor features an ash grey parquet, while bulkheads and ceilings are covered in neutral-toned Alcantara with dark grey leather details featuring Hibiscus-colored stitching. The furniture is distinctively designed, featuring two different types of oak wood, with one having a matte finish and the other a glossy finish. Stainless steel details are incorporated to enhance the interior's luxury. The bathroom is adorned with lacquered surfaces and Astana Grey marble, which exhibits a unique veining pattern with hints of orange, reminiscent of the cabin's stitching color.

This attention to detail even extends to the stitching of the sofa and the custom color and design of the parquet, while it pays off in the harmony of sophistication, comfort, and style. The audiovisual and navigation equipment are carefully cared for by YachtSense which represents the latest state of the art with the Raymarine Yachtsense automation system.

Engineering

The engineering design has followed the same rational approach used in the technical design of the big Ilumens, inspired by the techniques and methods used in the engineering of the most advanced bigger yachts. The most innovative design and the most modern processing techniques were used to achieve the best solution for all of the technical assets, especially concerning safety and performance. The engineering design was characterized by the study and analysis of weights, optimized with enhanced prediction methods. The outcome of this is a highly advanced structural layout, with extensive use of sandwich, vacuum infusion technology, and carbon fiber.

Also, the engine room was fully modeled in 3D in order to reach the best position of pieces of machinery and arrange the space as rationally as possible. The filling and painting process selected is the same that is used for mega yachts, which ensures a long duration in the year of the brightness.

A significant use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software, associated with mathematical algorithms, has made it possible to simulate the hull behavior both in still water and in rough sea to reach optimum performances and fuel consumption. The result of this intensive work is a planning hull with excellent seakeeping performance on waves, handling capabilities, and high cruising speeds in any weather conditions. Depending on the selected engines option available, the boat can reach maximum speeds ranging from 35 kts to 48 kts in an extremely safe manner, maintaining a very high level of comfort even when cruising at high speed.

Great static and dynamic stability was the focus of the hull design in order to ensure both a high level of safety and comfort on board. The hull was deeply optimized not only for the maximum speed but also for the cruising speeds giving the owner approximately 300 NM of range making this powerboat a perfect solution for weekend trips or even longer stays and island hopping.
